A Self Managed Super Fund has a very wide variety of investment options available.

Firstly the fund trustees must document a comprehensive investment strategy detailing what it is you will be doing with the funds and what risks you will be taking with the strategy. It is important to remember that the money in the fund is for retirement purposes and is not be gambled with or sitting idle.

A SMSF can invest in

  • Residential property
  • Commercial Property
  • Business Premises
  • Shares
  • Term Deposits
  • Bonds
  • Bank Accounts
  • Term Deposits
  • Futures
  • Options
  • Collectables - Specific restrictions apply

A SMSF cannot invest in your own business and the funds cannot be loaned to members.

It is important to design a diversified strategy and ensure the fund can perform in a variety of market conditions without unnecessarily exposing it to one particular asset class. In addition the fund must actively ensure it has sufficient liquidity to pay tax bills, fees, fund pensions and insurance premiums to avoid cash flow issues and forced asset sals

It’s never too early to invest in your future
